Karnataka 2nd PUC Physics Question Paper Pattern 2026-27

The uploaded Physics model papers contain 45 numbered questions, carry 70 marks and specify an examination duration of 3 hours.

The paper is divided into four compulsory parts: A, B, C and D. Part D has two separate groups of questions, and students must follow the choice instructions for each group.

Part Question Pattern Marks
A 15 multiple-choice questions and 5 fill-in-the-blanks 20
B Answer any 5 questions, 2 marks each 10
C Answer any 5 questions, 3 marks each 15
D – V Answer any 3 questions, 5 marks each 15
D – VI Answer any 2 numerical problems, 5 marks each 10
Total 70

Important Examination Instructions

The model papers specify that all four parts are compulsory. In Part A, only the first written answer will be considered for evaluation.

Students should draw relevant diagrams, figures and circuit diagrams wherever necessary. Numerical problems must include appropriate formulas, detailed working and correct final answers.

Important Physics Topics for Practice

The following topics have been identified from the questions appearing in the five uploaded 2026-27 Physics model papers. They provide a useful framework for revision.

  • Electric Charges and Fields: Coulomb's law, electric field, electric flux, electric dipole and Gauss's law.
  • Electrostatic Potential and Capacitance: Electric potential, equipotential surfaces, capacitors, capacitance combinations and stored energy.
  • Current Electricity: Electric current, drift velocity, Ohm's law, resistivity, Kirchhoff's laws, galvanometer and electrical circuits.
  • Moving Charges and Magnetism: Lorentz force, Biot-Savart law, Ampere's circuital law, magnetic field due to current-carrying conductors and force on moving charges.
  • Magnetism and Matter: Magnetic dipoles, magnetic field lines, paramagnetic, diamagnetic and ferromagnetic materials.
  • Electromagnetic Induction: Faraday's law, Lenz's law, induced emf, inductance, stored magnetic energy and AC generators.
  • Alternating Current: AC circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, impedance, resonance, phase difference and transformers.
  • Electromagnetic Waves: Properties, applications and electromagnetic wave generation.
  • Ray Optics and Optical Instruments: Reflection, refraction, mirrors, lenses, prisms, microscopes and telescopes.
  • Wave Optics: Huygens' principle, interference, Young's double-slit experiment, diffraction and polarization.
  • Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter: Photoelectric effect, Einstein's photoelectric equation and de Broglie wavelength.
  • Atoms and Nuclei: Rutherford and Bohr atomic models, nuclear binding energy, nuclear force, fission, fusion and radioactive decay.
  • Semiconductor Electronics: Intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors, p-n junction diodes, rectifiers and energy bands.

Note: These are practice topics found in the uploaded model papers, not an independently verified official list of chapter weightages or guaranteed examination questions.

Important Derivations and Diagrams to Practise

The model papers include a variety of derivation-based and diagram-based questions. Students should practise presenting the steps of a derivation clearly and labelling all relevant physical quantities.

Examples appearing in the model papers include:

  • Electric field or electric potential using electrostatic principles and Gauss's law.
  • Capacitance of parallel plate capacitors and equivalent capacitance.
  • Drift velocity, conductivity and applications of circuit laws.
  • Magnetic fields due to circular current loops and solenoids.
  • Electromagnetic induction, induced emf and AC generator principles.
  • Reflection and refraction using Huygens' principle.
  • Lens maker's formula and optical instrument diagrams.
  • p-n junction diode characteristics and rectifier circuits.

These examples are based on the uploaded papers. Students should revise the corresponding textbook material rather than limiting preparation to this list.

How to Practise Physics Numerical Problems

The model papers contain numerical problems involving electrostatics, capacitance, current electricity, alternating current, optics and other areas.

Before solving a problem, identify the given values and the physical quantity to be calculated. Choose the relevant formula, substitute the values with consistent units and show the calculations clearly.

After completing the calculation, check the magnitude and unit of the answer. The model-paper instructions emphasise that writing only the final numerical result without a formula and detailed steps is insufficient.

How to Prepare Using Physics MQP 1 to MQP 5

Step 1 – Solve MQP 1: Attempt the full paper within three hours. Identify topics where more revision is needed.

Step 2 – Review mistakes: Check incorrect formulas, unfinished derivations, missing circuit diagrams and calculation errors.

Step 3 – Practise MQP 2: Focus on clear derivations, relevant diagrams and correct application of physical laws.

Step 4 – Complete MQP 3: Revise numerical methods and ensure that each numerical answer includes the necessary working.

Step 5 – Attempt MQP 4: Treat it as a timed practice examination. Work on answering questions accurately while managing time.

Step 6 – Solve MQP 5: Attempt it as a final mock examination and review the answers using your textbook and class notes.

After finishing the five model papers, practise older board examination papers to improve confidence and familiarity with different question styles.
