Karnataka 2nd PUC Chemistry Question Paper Pattern 2026-27

The Chemistry model examination carries 70 marks and has a duration of 3 hours. Each model paper contains 46 numbered questions, with internal choices and instructions on how many answers to attempt.

Part Question Pattern Marks
A 15 multiple-choice questions and 5 fill-in-the-blanks 20
B Answer any 3 questions, 2 marks each 6
C Answer any 3 questions and any 2 questions from the two subsections, 3 marks each 15
D Answer any 4 questions, 5 marks each 20
E Answer any 3 numerical problems, 3 marks each 9
Total 70

Some papers also contain a separate Part F with an alternative to a diagram or graph-based question for visually challenged students. This is not an additional 70-mark paper section.

Important Examination Instructions

Students should write balanced chemical equations and draw neat, labelled diagrams or graphs wherever necessary.

For numerical problems, show the required calculation steps and include the appropriate units in the final answer. The uploaded model-paper instructions permit logarithm tables and simple calculators but do not permit scientific calculators.

Students should also follow any updated instructions issued by KSEAB for the actual examination.

Important Chemistry Topics for Practice

Based on the questions appearing across the five uploaded 2026-27 Chemistry model papers, students can organise their revision around the following subject areas.

  • Solutions: Concentration terms, Raoult's law, vapour pressure, ideal and non-ideal solutions, colligative properties, osmotic pressure and related numerical problems.
  • Electrochemistry: Electrochemical cells, electrode potentials, Nernst equation, conductance, molar conductivity, batteries, fuel cells and electrolysis.
  • Chemical Kinetics: Rate of reaction, order and molecularity, integrated rate equations, half-life, activation energy and the Arrhenius equation.
  • d- and f-Block Elements: Transition elements, oxidation states, lanthanoids, actinoids, coloured ions and important compounds of chromium and manganese.
  • Coordination Compounds: Werner's theory, IUPAC naming, isomerism, Valence Bond Theory, crystal-field splitting, magnetic properties and metal carbonyls.
  • Haloalkanes and Haloarenes: Nucleophilic substitution reactions, SN1 and SN2 mechanisms, preparation methods and named reactions.
  • Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers: Preparation, acidity, chemical reactions, Williamson's ether synthesis and related organic conversions.
  • Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids: Nucleophilic addition, oxidation and reduction, named reactions, acidity and chemical identification.
  • Amines: Basicity, preparation methods, diazonium salts, identification tests and organic conversions.
  • Biomolecules: Carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, vitamins, nucleic acids and biological importance.

Note: These are practice areas identified from the supplied model papers. They are not a separately verified exhaustive syllabus or a prediction of questions guaranteed to appear in the examination.

How to Prepare for Chemistry Numerical Problems

The model papers contain numerical questions based on solutions, electrochemistry and chemical kinetics. Students should practise selecting the correct formula, substituting values accurately, handling units and writing the final answer clearly.

For solutions, practise colligative properties, freezing-point depression, boiling-point elevation, osmotic pressure and vapour-pressure calculations.

For electrochemistry, revise cell potential, Nernst-equation calculations and electrolysis problems. Pay attention to the units and the number of electrons involved in the reactions.

For chemical kinetics, practise first-order reactions, half-life calculations, rate constants and activation energy using the Arrhenius equation.

Avoid writing only the final numerical result. The model-paper instructions require detailed calculation steps.

How to Prepare Using Chemistry MQP 1 to MQP 5

Step 1 – Solve MQP 1: Attempt the paper within three hours and identify topics that require more revision.

Step 2 – Review errors: Check incorrect chemical equations, IUPAC names, reaction mechanisms, formulas and calculations.

Step 3 – Practise MQP 2: Focus on physical chemistry numerical problems and important concepts in coordination chemistry.

Step 4 – Complete MQP 3: Practise organic chemistry conversions, named reactions and descriptive answers.

Step 5 – Attempt MQP 4: Treat the paper as a timed mock examination and review your performance.

Step 6 – Solve MQP 5: Complete it as a final practice paper. Pay attention to calculation accuracy, balanced equations and answer presentation.

After finishing all five model papers, students can practise previous-year Chemistry examination papers to gain more experience with different question formats.
