Karnataka 2nd PUC Mathematics Question Paper Pattern 2026-27

The uploaded Mathematics model papers contain 47 numbered questions, carry a maximum of 80 marks and specify an examination duration of 3 hours.

The question paper is organised into five compulsory parts: A, B, C, D and E. Students must follow the choice instructions within each part.

Part Question Pattern Marks
A 15 multiple-choice questions and 5 fill-in-the-blanks, one mark each 20
B Answer any 6 questions, 2 marks each 12
C Answer any 6 questions, 3 marks each 18
D Answer any 4 questions, 5 marks each 20
E Question 46 carries 6 marks and Question 47 carries 4 marks, with internal choices 10
Total 80

Important Examination Instructions

The papers instruct students to answer all five parts while following the internal-choice requirements. For linear programming questions in Part E, a graph sheet is required when attempting the graphical option.

Alternative questions are also provided for visually challenged students wherever the paper contains relevant figures or graphs.

Important Mathematics Topics for Practice

The following subject areas are based on the questions appearing in the five uploaded 2026-27 Mathematics model papers.

  • Relations and Functions: Types of relations, equivalence relations, one-one functions, onto functions and invertible functions.
  • Inverse Trigonometric Functions: Principal values, inverse trigonometric identities and simplification.
  • Matrices: Matrix operations, transpose, symmetric and skew-symmetric matrices, inverse matrices and solving simultaneous equations.
  • Determinants: Properties of determinants, area of triangles and applications in algebra.
  • Continuity and Differentiability: Continuity, derivatives, differentiability and derivatives of composite, implicit and parametric functions.
  • Applications of Derivatives: Increasing and decreasing functions, maxima and minima, and related rates.
  • Integrals: Indefinite integrals, definite integrals, substitution, integration by parts and partial fractions.
  • Applications of Integrals: Finding areas enclosed by curves, including circles and ellipses.
  • Differential Equations: Order, degree, formation and solutions of differential equations.
  • Vector Algebra: Vector products, magnitude, projection, angle between vectors and geometrical applications.
  • Three-Dimensional Geometry: Vector and Cartesian equations of lines, direction cosines, angles and shortest distance between lines.
  • Linear Programming: Objective functions, constraints, feasible regions and graphical optimisation.
  • Probability: Conditional probability, independent events, total probability and Bayes' theorem applications.

Note: These are practice topics identified from the uploaded model question papers. They are not presented as an independently verified exhaustive syllabus, chapter-weightage statement or prediction of board examination questions.

How to Practise Mathematics Numerical Problems

Begin by learning the formulas and methods relevant to each topic. Mathematics examination preparation requires understanding the steps used to solve a problem, rather than memorising only the final answer.

For calculus, practise differentiation, applications of derivatives, definite and indefinite integrals, and differential equations. Pay attention to limits of integration, signs, constants and the conditions given in each problem.

For matrices and determinants, practise the order of operations, properties of matrices and determinant methods. Review your calculations carefully when solving simultaneous linear equations.

For vectors and three-dimensional geometry, work regularly on dot products, cross products, direction ratios, lines and angles. Use the correct vector notation in your solutions.

For probability and linear programming, identify the events or constraints correctly before beginning calculations. When drawing graphs, label the axes, boundaries and feasible region clearly.

How to Prepare Using Mathematics MQP 1 to MQP 5

Step 1 – Attempt MQP 1: Solve the first model paper within three hours. This will help you assess your speed, accuracy and understanding of the question pattern.

Step 2 – Review mistakes: Check where you made algebraic errors, selected incorrect formulas, missed conditions or left answers incomplete.

Step 3 – Practise MQP 2: Revise the relevant concepts before attempting the second paper. Focus on the types of problems that required more time in MQP 1.

Step 4 – Complete MQP 3: Practise calculus, matrices, vectors and probability without referring to solutions while answering.

Step 5 – Attempt MQP 4: Pay particular attention to the 5-mark questions and longer Part E problems. Follow the choice instructions carefully.

Step 6 – Solve MQP 5: Treat the final model paper as a complete mock examination. Review the solutions, accuracy and time management afterward.

Suggested Revision Sequence:
Revise Formulas → Solve MQP 1 → Review Errors → Solve MQP 2 → Practise Difficult Topics → Solve MQP 3 → Solve MQP 4 → Solve MQP 5
