Important Sociology Topics for Practice

Based on the actual questions appearing across the five 2026-27 Sociology model papers, students should practise the following subject areas:

  • Indian Society and Social Diversity: National integration, linguistic diversity, religions and social groups.
  • Caste and Social Inequality: Caste system, dominant caste, backward classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and social reform.
  • Family and Marriage: Joint family, matriarchal and patriarchal family structures, advantages and disadvantages of joint family, and changing family patterns.
  • Women Empowerment: Women's organisations, constitutional provisions, microfinance, development programmes and women's movements.
  • Rural Society: Indian villages, rural studies, village panchayats, agricultural problems, rural poverty and farmer movements.
  • Urban Society: Urbanisation, urban poverty, slums and challenges faced by Indian cities.
  • Social Change: Sanskritisation, Westernisation, Modernisation and Globalisation.
  • Social Movements: Dalit movements, backward-class movements, peasant struggles, Kagodu Satyagraha and Malaprabha agitation.
  • Mass Media and Technology: Newspapers, radio, television, social networking, digital communication and changes in media.
  • Population and Demography: Census-related concepts, demographic characteristics, population policy and demographic patterns.

Important: These are practice topics drawn from the uploaded model question papers. They should not be treated as an independently verified, exhaustive chapter-wise syllabus or an official list of guaranteed examination questions.

Frequently Appearing Question Areas in the Five Model Papers

Students preparing for the Sociology examination may find it helpful to compare the five model papers for repeated themes. Some recurring areas include:

  • Characteristics, advantages, disadvantages and changes in joint families.
  • Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, welfare measures and social inequality.
  • Women empowerment, women's movements and rural development.
  • Rural and urban problems, including poverty and slum development.
  • Modernisation and Sanskritisation as processes of social change.
  • Social movements in Karnataka and India.
  • Mass media and changing patterns of communication.

A topic appearing repeatedly in model papers can be useful for revision, but it does not guarantee that the same question will appear in the final board examination.

How to Prepare Using Sociology MQP 1 to MQP 5

Begin your preparation with MQP 1. Attempt the paper within the three-hour time limit. This will help you understand the question format and identify areas requiring additional practice.

After completing the first paper, review your answers and revise the related concepts. Pay attention to using clear sociological terminology and writing the required number of points.

Use MQP 2 and MQP 3 to practise short answers and five-mark explanations. Prepare suitable introductions, relevant sociological examples and organised explanations for important topics.

Complete MQP 4 and MQP 5 as full mock examinations. Focus particularly on time management for the 10-mark long-answer questions in Part D.

Recommended Practice Sequence:
Revise Important Topics → Solve MQP 1 → Review Mistakes → Solve MQP 2 → Practise Long Answers → Solve MQP 3 → Solve MQP 4 → Solve MQP 5
